Two students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have won the silver award at the Africa division of the 2025 China International College Students Innovation Competition for developing an automated drone delivery system.
Richmond Yeboah and Fredrick Andoh, both from KNUST’s Department of Computer Science, designed and programmed a drone capable of picking up and delivering items to designated locations on campus.

Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson congratulated the students for their achievement. She emphasised the need to translate academic knowledge into real-world solutions.
“This is what we keep telling our students, let us take the gown to town. Your creativity and innovation should not remain within the walls of the university. You have what it takes to solve real problems, and teamwork will always make us richer collectively”, she said.
Reflecting on the experience, Richmond Yeboah described it as an eye-opener, noting the importance of collaboration.
“I saw other projects coming from different parts of the continent, and I learned the value of teamwork. If you go alone, you may go fast, but with a team, you go further,” he said.
Fredrick Andoh also commended the lecturers and facilitators for their mentorship and support in their journey.
“You can have great ideas and dreams, but without support from mentors, lecturers, and staff, you won’t move as fast as you want. This experience taught me the value of seeking help from others,” he said.
The faculty members who led the team from the Department of Computer Science are: Prof. Michael Asante (Head of Department); Prof. Yaw Missah; Dr. Oliver Kornyo; Dr. Kwabena Owusu Agyeman; Dr. Linda Amoako Baning and Dr. Benjamine Tei Partey.
